A Bespoke Housewarming Gift for a Midcentury Fan

A Bespoke Housewarming Gift for a Midcentury Fan

My Insta pal, the fabulous artist Georgina Westley, got in touch to ask if I could make a brooch for her friend, who had just bought a super-cute midcentury bungalow.

Georgina didn't have to ask me twice, because 1) bungalows and 2) I've been meaning to experiment with a dinky-er-style bungalow shape for ages so this was the perfect reason to finally get making one!

I decided to laser etch walnut to suggest the brickwork, and I used a lighter lime wood for the panelled section above and below the left window. The home-owner's home featured a green section but in discussion with Georgina we decided to keep the panelling plain, so the recipient could always paint their brooch if they decided to change their house's colour!

I really love this house shape and the pleasing sense of balance it has. I was especially happy with how the roof line turned out, with the slightly inset white fascia!

As you can see below the brooch was well received, which is always such a nice feeling.

If you're curious to know if your house would work in miniature form, feel free to get in touch. Pop over to my Commissions page to learn more about the process.
